BIOGRAPHY
Rachel was born into a musical family and first started singing at the age of 10.
To begin with, classical singing was not an interest of Rachel’s, as she wanted to be the next ‘pop star’, as every other teenage girl wants to be! However, as Rachel continued her vocal training under the tuition of local teacher and now family friend Michael Hampshire, her interest in different singing styles began to develop.
At the age of 16, Rachel gained a place at the prestigious Chethams School of Music in Manchester, where she studied for her A levels and trained her voice for two years under the tuition of Opera singer Diana Palmerston. Rachel has recently and successfully completed her studies at Chethams School of Music.
Rachel is a member of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, gaining a place in the main choir at the tender age of 16. In the summer of 2009, she travelled with them on tour to the west coast of America, performing at many concerts, one of which was at The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles along side contemporary American composer Eric Whitacre.
Rachel has sung at many prestigious events before and already has an impressive client list under her belt, which is still growing strong. Recently, as well as being invited to perform as guest soloist for the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir at the stunning Castle Howard (famous setting of Brideshead Revisited), in support of The Princes Trust, she was also guest soloist at Fountains Abbey and, at a later date, Cartmel Priory, with the Steeton Male Voice Choir. Rachel was privileged to have the opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall with Chethams Chamber Choir as part of the Proms season 2009, and was guest soloist as well as a Young Achiever at The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire’s Garden Party for Young Achievers at Bramham Park, Leeds, this summer. More recent appearances have been with Manchester Choir ‘Canzonetta’ on the Bryn Terfel’s 2009 ‘Bad Boys Tour’ with concerts at various UK concert halls including the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Rachel has also appeared with The Kings Singers with The National Youth Choir of Great Britain at Birmingham Symphony Hall for their 25th Anniversary Concert…. And so the list goes on…
Rachel has a diverse range of repertoire & enjoys singing in a variety of musical styles… opera, popular, jazz, songs from the shows… as well as performing her classical repertoire. She is a very talented and hard working musician who consistently performs to the highest of standards. Piano is another one of Rachel’s passions, however, as she likes to say, that’s more for pleasure than anything else!
Rachel has also helped out many local charities, churches, hospices etc. by performing at numerous events and raising funds for specific causes, some of which include: Save the Children, Overgate Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Care, Forget Me Not Trust, The Salvation Army, The Princes Trust, etc..
In the future, Rachel hopes to continue her vocal studies at Music College or University and wants to carry on developing her passion for music. Her ambition is to become a professional singer.
